Redwood City Farm Hill Estate Homes For Sale
Farm Hill Estates is the westernmost neighborhood in Redwood City proper, located along Farm Hill Boulevard and bordering Emerald Hills. The two neighborhoods are actually quite similar, except for one main difference: while Farm Hill was officially annexed as part of Redwood City, Emerald Hills was not. This lends Farm Hill a more suburban and less remote feel. In addition, while Emerald Lake flourished in the 1920s as a resort area, Farm Hill benefitted from the post-World War II housing boom and consequently offers mostly mid-century style homes.
The development of Farm Hill Estates began in the mid 1950s, when real estate developer and World War II veteran Andy Oddstad first went to work on a large residential tract that he called the Medallion Series. He took great pride in the quality of the homes, and they are still sought-after today, although many have been updated in the past 60 years. By 1964, other developers had moved into the area surrounding the Medallion Series homes and began to build neighborhoods which varied greatly in style and adhered less to the cohesive suburban plan that Oddstad desired. These more eclectic areas resemble Emerald Hills, and homes here remain some of the largest in Farm Hill Estates.
In fact, Farm Hill is known for its very spacious homes in comparison to eastern Redwood City – many offer around 2,000 square feet, large lots, and even views of San Francisco bay due to their hillside location. Schools in Farm Hill Estates are also a big draw, as much of the neighborhood is served by Roy Cloud Elementary (k-8), one of the top-ranked schools in the area. This neighborhood is ideal for families, with its pleasant, winding streets that could accurately be described as peaceful suburbia.
